Racers and sponsors prepare for 2024 Soap Box Derby
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Soap Box Derby will kick off this Friday, and in preparation, the Kiwanis Club held their annual sponsor luncheon and oil can race.
Nearly 70 racers will compete in this year’s soap box derby, and each of them has spent the last few months constructing their own cars and practicing for the big race. The sponsor luncheon is for all derby sponsors to get together, see the kids they are sponsoring and take a turn down the track.
Ron Cummings, member of the Kiwanis Club for 34 years and Warren County magistrate, says, “We invite anybody wants to come down in these adult size cars so that they can see the thrill of the hills themselves. Until you’re in a car until you going down, you don’t really understand the joy the thrill that there is to do it.”
The soap box derby is free, and festivities will start on Friday, June 14 at 5 p.m. and again Saturday morning at 7 a.m.
