Chapel Tinius runs across Kentucky so veterans can fly
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green native is running so that veterans can fly.
Chapel Tinius is originally from Bowling Green, but moved to Lexington. Now, she’s taking a trip across the Commonwealth to help veterans.
Chapel runs 10K’s across Kentucky to help raise money for the Honor Flight program, which gives veterans like her grandfather an all-expenses paid trip to Washington D.C. to see the war monuments and pay their respects to those they served with.
This is the second year she’s done this run, but she’s worked with Honor Flight for years now.
She told us about a time she actually went on an Honor Flight with a veteran during her time working with the program.
“I’ve never experienced something quite like seeing somebody be so upbeat all day long… and then when he got to the Korean War Memorial, it was just complete silence… and just him remembering and honoring his fellow soldiers that he had served beside. It’s a beautiful experience,” she says.
Chapel is set to be in Warren County this weekend, and she tells us she hopes for her third Run to Fly that she can make more stops in South Central Kentucky and come back to her roots.
