Barren County Schools district prepares for summer feeding program

GLASGOW, Ky. – The Barren County School district is preparing for its summer feeding program. The school district will serve 2,600 students to help with food insecurities, which is nearly half of the school district’s students.

The feeding program offers pick-up meals every Thursday, and each student will get seven breakfast meals and seven lunch meals at a time. The school district is also in collaboration with BC Reads and Feeds, a nonprofit that provides books and meal kits to students.

CheyAnne Fant, director of Nutrition Services for Barren County School district, says, “We’ve been doing summer feeding for a long time in Barren County, and we know that the need is there. We have kids who come through the breakfast and lunch line, and you can tell that it’s been a weekend because they are wanting extra food.”

Barren County served more summer feeding meals in the last summer than any other county in the state. If you would like to sign up for the feeding program, you can visit the Barren County Schools website.
