Hart County Navy veteran survives fire but loses everything

MUNFORDVILLE, Ky. – One Hart County resident lost his home early Sunday morning just after midnight.

Eighty-year-old navy veteran Tony Smith was in his single-wide trailer, when a fire took everything before his eyes.

Right now, the fire is still under investigation. The Hart County Veterans Committee is looking to the community for donations to help Smith, who they say faces a physical disability.

Derek McClure, president of the Hart County Veterans Committee, says, “I’ve had help along my way, physically, mentally and financially. The VA, Veterans Affairs, it gets a lot of bad heat, but they really do a lot of good things. There is just so many people it’s hard for them to do. So, organizations like what we have here at the Hart County Veterans Committee, it’s needed in the community.”

If you would like to help in any way, donations for Tony Smith can be dropped off at Daisy’s Consignment on Main Street in Munfordville.
