Spotting the signs of abuse
SOUTH CENTRAL, KY.- With child abuse prevention month coming to a close, it’s still important to spot the signs.
The signs of abuse can often get overlooked or missed, but experts say it is crucial to know what it looks like. Physical, emotional and psychological, are forms of abuse that can go unnoticed. We spoke with Barren River Area Safe Space and learned that emotional or psychological abuse can be masked by a change in attitude.
Tori Henninger, the B.R.A.S.S. Executive Director tells us the response of many parents who face this kind of trauma. Tori says,
“A parent just feels so lost, or a guardian just feels so lost and I don’t know what to do. And, what are people going to think about me if I let this happen? And it’s like, well, you didn’t let anything happen. If you knew about it, you would have stopped it.”
If you are dealing with abuse or if you know someone who is dealing with abuse and you don’t know how to handle the situation, Barren River Area Safe Space encourages you to reach out to the family enrichment center. https://www.familyenrichmentcenter.com/.
