Hope for Hunger is hoping to collect 1 million servings

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- For the 13th year, the Realtors Association of Southern Kentucky has been collecting food for the hungry in our community. Hope for Hunger is an initiative that gets the community involved in donating food that will then be directly delivered to schools across the area.

The Realtor’s Association of Southern Kentucky joined volunteers and donors at First Bank on Campbell Lane for Hope for Hunger on Friday. President of RASK, Tony Vance, says, “Over the last 12 years, we have accumulated 5.4 million servings for the local community, and our goal is one million this year.”

The collection of any non-perishable food items and monetary donations will help poverty-stricken and homeless children and their families in the community. Vance says, “We’re partnering with Feed America, so they really help us out, so they can buy more per dollar when we use them and it is beneficial for both of us.”

The food will be delivered directly to local schools in ten districts on Tuesday, to assist in fighting any hunger and food insecurities these children and their family’s may face.

CEO of RASK Steve Denney, says, “You’d be surprised when you talk to the human resource people at each individual school and the needs that are there. A lot of people don’t know that even their next-door neighbor might be one of those in need.”

Over 30 schools will receive donations from Hope for Hunger, and family resource coordinators will then distribute when visiting the homes of these students.

Denney says, “You never know until you ask. It’s hard for kids to come forward that need stuff like this, so sometimes you just provide it because you know there is people out there that are going to need it.”

If you would like to donate, the Realtors Association of Southern Kentucky will be at First Bank on Campbell Lane until 7:30 p.m. this evening.
