Friends of Scouting Luncheon surpasses fundraising goal
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Nearly 150 community leaders gathered Thursday for the Friends of Scouting Luncheon. The annual fundraising event aims to support scouts in Bowling Green and surrounding counties.
One of the guests included the new head coach of Western Kentucky University Men’s Basketball, Hank Plona. Plona delivered a keynote address to the crowd at the Knicely Conference Center.
In Plona’s first community event as head coach, he shared how scouting teaches qualities he expects in his players, the same qualities that can extend to several areas of life.
Jason Pierce, scout executive and CEO of Lincoln Heritage Council, says, “I’ll tell you, scouting is a great place for a young person to grow. Young girls and young boys. It’s a place for them to learn leadership skills, values and have outdoor adventures that gets kids away from the laptops.”
The event surpassed its goal by raising $22,000.
