Allen County Emergency Management shares tips for potential severe weather

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With the possibility of severe weather coming on Tuesday, it’s important to stay informed and know where to go.

News 40 spoke to the Gary Petty, the director of emergency management in Allen County, who told us that there can never be enough information shared when it comes to the weather.

Petty said he is a strong advocate for weather radios, being that sirens can only be heard indoors. With the possibility of some rough weather, Petty said to make sure your phone is charged and any radios you have, turn up the volume so you can hear it at night.

Above all, Petty said to not wait until the last minute for anything. “You keep hearing on television get to your safe space, get to your safe space. Don’t wait until you hear the wind howling to start moving.”

Petty said there is a storm shelter located at every volunteer fire department in Allen County. However, this differs depending on the area. For a full list of storm shelters, click here.
