Russell Sims Aquatic Center expected to open on time after early closure last summer
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Russell Sims Aquatic Center is scheduled to open on time this season after closing early last summer. The aquatic center was shut down early due to maintenance and repairs on a large crack beside the pool.
Ending last year’s season early was not expected but necessary for these repairs. With just a few weeks before the start of the season, staff tells News 40 that repairs have been made, and more preparation will continue over the next few weeks.
Recreation division manager for the City of Bowling Green, Cameron Levis, says “We know that we can offer something that is going to enhance the quality of life for the people that live here and in our community. And we, every summer, are prepared to make the Russell Sims Aquatic Center all it can be for the people who get to enjoy it. But, because it was built in 2000, and because it is the 25th season, over the life of a facility like this we expect there to be things that we are going to have to fix.”
The aquatic center is now in the hiring process for the summer and will open as scheduled on Memorial Day.
