Kyle Rittenhouse appears at WKU as protesters rally outside Downing Student Union
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A controversial figure appeared on Western Kentucky University’s campus Wednesday night.
Protestors gathered outside Downing Student Union as Kyle Rittenhouse spoke to around a hundred people inside a classroom.
Rittenhouse was invited to speak by a campus organization known as “Turning Point USA”
The event sparked controversy across campus. You may remember Kyle Rittenhouse, who was acquitted of all charges after shooting and killing two people and wounding a third during a 2020 protest against racism and police brutality in Kenosha, Wisconsin after testifying he acted in self defense.
“Today we’re gathered, me and my brothers and sisters… we’re gathered here today to stand against the speaker that’s coming here today, Kyle Rittenhouse,” one of the lead protestors, Myricle Gholston, says.
Rittenhouse spoke for about 40 minutes, recounting the night in Wisconsin, the trial that followed and his stance on the Black Lives Matter movement.
He took questions from the crowd before ending the event.
He’s now expected to speak at Kent State University in Ohio some time next month.
