National Vietnam War Veterans Day is on Friday

BOWLING GREEN, KY.- Veterans can sometimes go unnoticed and often need the support of their community, and for Vietnam Veterans, the support needed is no different.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is Friday, March 29, and local organizations are offering help to show their support for those who served our country.

We spoke to Whitney Paul Allen Jr., the commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Veteran Affairs, who told us how important these resources are. He says, “This is the welcome home that they deserve. So if you look back during the Vietnam War, it was very unpopular. It was one of the first wars that was shown not only on television, it was a very hot topic, along with other things that were going on in the sixties and seventies, and unfortunately, Vietnam veterans or those who were serving in the military in general were not treated with respect.”

If you are a veteran or a family member of a veteran and need support assistance with getting your benefits or programs to connect veteran women to resources, you can reach the Kentucky Department of Veteran Affairs by calling 502-564-9203.
