Change your smoke detector batteries during Daylight Saving

ALLEN COUNTY, Ky.- It is that time of year, and as daylight saving time approaches, fire departments are encouraging everyone to change the batteries in their smoke detectors. If your smoke detector is constantly beeping, that might be your sign to replace the batteries or get a new smoke detector. Many stores sell smoke detectors that last up to ten years.

Chief Michael Cooksey, of Scottsville- Allen County Fire Department tells us that a fresh smoke detector can be the difference between life and death. He says, “We’ve been in a lot of fires where the smoke detectors have saved people’s lives that, you know, the smoke detector went off and they heard it and they got out, and there have been some that didn’t have detectors and didn’t make it out. ”

The fire chief also recommends that people check their carbon monoxide detectors as well, because they are just as important as smoke detectors.
