No ring video footage without a warrant
GLASGOW, KY.- If you own a ring camera, You might be asked to share the footage with the police, but the new owner of the ring camera company has added new rules. Law enforcement can no longer get the footage from users if the video footage is uploaded to the cloud without a warrant.
According to Major Terry Flatt Glasgow Police Department, this did not impact many law enforcement agencies in South Central Kentucky, because they already request this information with a warrant. Major Flatt says, “Whether it be rain blink or whatever, you know, the camera system maybe. When we need to get some video footage or some information, our officers usually do it, and most of the time they’re going to get a court order, you know, a subpoena or a search warrant for that provider.”
The owner of the Ring camera company did not give a reason for this new requirement. This new rule that was put into place has some people concerned, but for law enforcement in South Central Kentucky, it’s not a problem.
