Toys for Tots wrapping the final gifts for Christmas delivery
BOWLING GREEN, KY.- It’s the season of giving, and many children don’t always get gifts. For thousands of children that’s all about to change, thanks to Toys for Tots Marine Corps Reserve and News 40 volunteers. Toys are flooding into our local North Pole.
The Toys for Tots coordinator, Janel Doyle shares why this is important and what this means for the people receiving these gifts. Doyle says, “A lot of the families that come here to receive their bag of toys tell us this is their children’s only Christmas, so I believe it is a blessing and it’s a gift. We would never be able to provide these toys for families in need without our community support.”
Granting Christmas wishes is not the easiest thing to do, but with the help of Toys for Tots and the volunteers here at the North Pole, they’re making Christmas magic.
Jacob Barker, a member of the Marine Corps says, “It’s quite a bit of magic. There are a lot of toys coming through from local businesses, and local donors. We have different areas where we sort the toy store, the toys. I wish I could do more. I’m just always looking for more opportunities. You know, The more kids I help, the more I want to help. So it’s very exciting to know we’re making a direct impact. It gives me the magic of Christmas as an adult.”
Sorting and bagging blessings to give to children in need, is just the beginning. Nothing will compare to the joy the kids will have when they get their gifts.
It is a lot of work, but it is so worth it. On Christmas morning, everyone can wake up knowing that thousands of children will experience Christmas joy because of volunteers and our generous community.
