BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man has been formally charged in connection with a woman’s death in August.

David Profitt II, 25, was indicted Wednesday, Oct. 18 on charges of murder, first-degree strangulation, abuse of a corpse, theft by unlawful taking or disposition of an automobile between $1,000 and $10,000, three counts of second-degree forgery and second-degree persistent felony offender.

Profitt is accused of causing the death of Alexandra Hemmann, 22, at a Winners Circle apartment in August.

Bowling Green police say when they entered the apartment on Aug. 12 for a welfare check, they found Hemmann dead from an apparent homicide. Police say Profitt strangled Hemmann during an argument before releasing her and putting her in a headlock as she was trying to leave, causing her death.

Profitt was later located in August outside of Fishers, Indiana and taken into custody without incident, according to police.

Police say the theft charge stems from when Profitt took Hemmann’s vehicle to Indiana without permission. In addition, police say Profitt was charged with abuse of a corpse due to having sexual intercourse with Hemmann’s body.

Profitt’s forgery charge stems from writing three checks on Hemmann’s account between Aug. 1 and Aug. 9, police say.

In a preliminary hearing on Aug. 30, officials said Profitt was sending inconsistent text messages pretending to be the victim using the victim’s phone after she was dead. Profitt ultimately confessed his involvement in the victim’s murder, BGPD detective David Grimsley said during the hearing.

Police say Hemmann died of asphyxiation.

Profitt remains at the Warren County Detention Center on a $500,000 cash bond. His arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 30 at 9 a.m.
