Fundraising for the expansion of the Butler County Animal Shelter
BUTLER COUNTY, KY.- The Butler County Animal Shelter is doing a lot within the community. They are fundraising by partnering with different companies like the Funds2orgs and many members of the community. The major goal they want to reach will require a lot of fundraising.
According to the director of the animal shelter Ruby Fooks,”The animals lives depend on our fundraising. Before they leave we competently vet them. They are spayed, neutered, vaccinated with a clean bill of health and that takes a lot of money and funds.”
The assistant veterinarian, Makayla Lowe-Sikes shares that the current facility doesn’t have the capacity to engage with the community the way that the staff at the shelter would like to, and the faculty is doing everything they can to improve and grow in every area.
She shares, “There are so many things we want to do, and we just can’t do here. We are trying to build our new facility. The Butler County
animal care and wellness facility that we want will serve the community in so many different ways…We want more opportunities to serve our community because they feel like they are apart of us and they are apart of doing something, even if they don’t want to step foot in the animal shelter and do something. They can still help us out.”
Some ways they want to help is by offering more knowledge to children and families. Many volunteers know that the knowledge will not only benefit the families, it will also help the dogs.
Amy Smith- Thomas, a local volunteer shares her experiences with locals who come in and visit the shelter. She says, “We see all of the citizens that come in and they’re happy. They love to come in, and they know that they are giving back for our animals and we enjoy doing that for our shelter.”
This new facility will be filled with rooms and space designed specifically for the community, a kitchen, food pantry, surgical rooms, isolation rooms for the animals, and so much more. With everything added, the Butler County Animal Shelter will create a space that connects the community.
