New development coming to Shake Rag District

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – You know the people who own Traveler’s Cellar Winery? Well they’re expanding in a pretty cool way.

Toward the end of State Street, the old State Street High School gym still stands and will soon be under new management along with getting a new look. The Huffs decided to buy the old gym after a look around and are excited to play into the history and culture of the building and the Shake Rag District.

Derrick Huff, who spoke to News 40 said upstairs will be the wine bar they’ve been wanting to open, but the half basement will be a speakeasy which they hope to have live jazz and blues playing, but nothing above the 1950s. Derrick said he and his wife want to add a cigar lounge area as well as a hidden entrance.

Derrick told the station he’s working with interior design students and Western Kentucky University to come up with a vision for the inside as well as some other partnership they hope to flesh out.
