BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Sarah Vetter is bringing her students a great experience for her students to Barren County Middle School. The art teacher applied for grant from Arts for All Kentucky, an organization focused on helping those with disabilities still remain involved in the creative process.
News 40 came to Barren County Middle School to see the product of the students, being tasked with creating a self portrait with the help of guest artist Kim Soule, who works with Arts for All Kentucky. Vetter said having two children with Autism, she’s glad that the concept for the organization is an option. The middle school teacher told News 40 that she encourages educators to look into applying for something if they’re able to.
The station also got some comments from the guest teacher, who said that for students that might have a disability in some way, art can be a great thing for them. Soule said art is something that students in general can really succeed in and Vetter who has two children with autism herself can agree.
Vetter said for her own children, one of which is in her class and one high school, she knows they feel more successful in things like P.E. or art at times and can really enjoy themselves with a cool form of expression.
Vetter said she was thankful to a program like Arts for All Kentucky and hinted that it’s worth checking into and you can do so at http://artsforallky.org.
