Teranga Academy vs Geo International High School soccer match breaks barriers
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- The Teranga Academy in Bowling Green is breaking barriers and preparing foreign students to become excellent citizens, future leaders and to connect with the world.
The independent school has been open for two years, providing junior high and high school students who have been in the United States for three years or less with the chance to play sports like soccer. This is giving the students opportunities to learn and connect with one another in spite of the language barrier.
Kristi Costellow, the principal of Teranga Academy, says “The thing that makes me the happiest is when I hear the students say this feels like family to them. We strive to be a place of belonging, a place that fosters community and acceptance and to hear the students say this feels like family is the most rewarding thing.”
Although language plays a major part in our everyday lives, the Teranga Academy is not allowing that to stop its students from soaring to greater heights and providing new possibilities for them to become better.
