BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police has released further details surrounding the shooting that occurred involving a Bowling Green police officer.

KSP says its Critical Response Team was requested by the Bowling Green Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred around 5:25 p.m. July 6 in Bowling Green.

Members of KSP CIRT arrived on the scene and began an investigation.

After a preliminary investigation, KSP says it found that BGPD officer Matt Davis and a department-approved ride-along were responding to a disturbance complaint at America’s Car-Mart on Russellville Road.

Authorities say while Davis was investigating, the subject, Esteban Lowery, took out a handgun from his waistband and pointed the weapon at Davis. At this time, KSP says Davis attempted to deflect the weapon and distance himself from Lowery.

Lowery then fired multiple rounds, striking Davis and incapacitating him, authorities say.

Once additional Bowling Green Police Department officers arrived, officials say they found Lowery unresponsive. First responders performed life-saving measures on scene to both Lowery and Davis, according to KSP.

Lowery was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green, where he was pronounced dead.

Davis was transported to Skyline Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee for treatment of multiple gunshot wounds.
