WKU provides physical education for homeschooled children
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky University’s Physical Education Program is providing free physical education for homeschooled children, ages Kindergarten to 6th grade.
Physical education is a curriculum requirement in children’s education, but is sometimes overlooked in homeschool settings.
WKU will offer PE to homeschooled students on Friday mornings for the next 10 weeks by incorporating motor and social skills that expand the physical limits of children.
By exposing home-schooled children to new environments, a more social mindset is created, teaching them to work well with others while bettering themselves.
Physical Education students at WKU will help facilitate the program, while creating a safe environment, and provide the learning of motor skills and social skills.
Farrah Castleman, WKU Physical and Health Education student, says, “Involve them in club sports. You can also have social interaction, as well as physical interaction. A lot of times, kids do better if they’re paired up with someone while working out, if they’re having to be self-motivated, it is not as well done.”
The WKU Physical Education Program for homeschooled students is free of charge, and you can call 270-745-4070 to register, or Jean Chen at yuchun@wku.edu.
