Teachers prepare for the first day of school

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Going back to school can be stressful for everyone involved such as teachers, parents and kids.

News 40 stopped by Potter Gray Elementary to talk to some educators about getting ready for the return of students, and luckily we ran into Lindsey Matthews and Megan Hall.

Matthews, a third grade reading teacher told News 40 that taking advantage of summer break is important. She said the beach is her happy place, so she goes at least once to clear her mind.

The station also asked about what she thinks makes for a successful elementary teaching career, to which part has nailed down. “Have energy, and just have fun with the kids, if you’re having fun they’ll be more willing to learn in your room.”

The young teacher said she thinks having an appealing room design is important too, wanting to make the kids feel welcomed and mentally stimulated.

Hall told News 40 that an important piece of advice for parents is to make sure they fill their kids with a sense of confidence. If it’s your first time sending your kid to school, Hall said to just keep positive about the experience because they will tend to affect how your child views their new environment.
