BGPD says not to give too much information in back-to-school posts

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – While you might be proud to send your kid off to their first day of third grade, you want to make sure you’re not oversharing.

Social media is a huge thing in today’s world, but more than just your friends are out there seeing what you post. News 40 spoke to Ronnie Ward, the public information officer of the Bowling Green Police Department, about the risk of something that seems harmless.

Ward said there’s nothing wrong with wanting to share accomplishments, but there are people out there that might not have the purest of intentions. Ward said while the chances are low, keep information to a minimum.

The officer said just include a first name and maybe what grade they’ll be in, but hold off on the school, teacher and any other kind of identifiers as to who or where your child is.
