Kentucky is celebrating Alpaca Fleece and Fiber Month

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Kentucky is using the month of July to celebrate their unusual livestock, owned by hundreds of residents.

Alpacas are receiving statewide recognition after Kentucky Department of Agriculture signed a proclamation naming July “Alpaca Fleece and Fiber Month”.

The animals serve many purposes for farmers, whether its breeding, farm tours or alpaca apparel.

Elaine Painter has spent years raising alpacas, and the fuzzy animals definitely earn their keep.

Painter, owner of Alive N Fuzzy Alpaca Farm, says, “There’s various purposes on each individual farm for their alpacas. Our primary goal is to produce fiber to make lovely sweaters, scarves and things like that.”

While it is hard work, the packs bring plenty of reward to their owners. To learn more about alpacas, visit alivenfuzzyalpacas.com.
