Brownsville Road house crushed during storms
SMITHS GROVE, Ky. – A local home was crushed by a falling tree in the first wave of storms this week. At 9905 Brownsville Road, firefighters and local residents rushed to help out a neighbor.
“After the storm hit, we just heard a loud roar and we went into our hallway. My son was here at the same time. He says ‘I’ve got to go.’ I said, ‘Well, where are you going?’ because I’m just thinking there’s going to be branches or trees down. He said that he’s going to go check out who’s using a chainsaw. It sounds like it’s going to be a problem,” Jane Ely, owner of Piddlin’ Round Farm and a neighbor to the home says.
However, in the previous months, that resident was not alone.
“It reminded me of hurricane force winds here. We lost the soffit in our carport. There was stuff everywhere. I’m still repairing damage on my car from it,” Ely says.
Jane has one message to anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation.
“Don’t take these storms lightly. When you get a warning or you even think that it’s going to be bad, get to a safe place. Don’t risk it, it’s not worth it. I’m glad that my family’s safe. We didn’t lose any animals. To me, things can be replaced, but lives can’t… Look out for your neighbors. Sometimes you don’t know, you think yours is worse than anybody else. But my husband went down to go check on him and he was stuck in his house. So check on your neighbors and make sure they’re okay,” Ely says.
