Identities released of couple found dead in apparent homicide/suicide

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Warren County Sheriff’s Office and the Kentucky State Police are investigating the deaths of two people at 1000 North Hewitt Lane.

The sheriff’s office was called to the large farm house late Saturday morning where they found the deceased bodies.

Warren County Coroner Kevin Kirby identified the deceased as Lori Smith, 48, and her husband Stacy Smith, 45.

Warren County Sheriff Brett Hightower said the investigation is a joint investigation with the two agencies.

Early Sunday night the sheriff’ office released a statement about the manner of deaths.

“After a thorough analysis of the processed crime scene and the preliminary autopsy report, it appears that, in the early morning hours of August 23rd, Mr. And Mrs. Smith had a domestic dispute. During this event, Stacy W. Smith, 45, shot his wife Lorie L. Smith, 48, inflicting a fatal injury. Thereafter, Mr. Smith utilized the same weapon on himself and committed suicide,” according to the release.
