Gatton Academy student accepted to West Point Military Academy
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Gatton Academy student has been bestowed a high honor.
Reagan Phelps, who is currently a student at Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science, has been appointed to West Point Military Academy.
She was the first student to receive a service academy appointment this year. Phelps was nominated by congressman Brett Guthrie, who was also on hand to help Phelps celebrate the accomplishment.
“I actually I think I started crying probably. And called my mother, of course. But I was mostly just so relieved and excited that I had done it and that all the hard work had paid off. And I don’t think I ever would have even thought I would be able to get into West Point if it wasn’t for Gatton,” the West Point cadet said.
Students can seek nominations to U.S. service academies from several sources, including through their U.S. representative.
