Houdini, the goat who owned I-65
IRVINGTON, Ky. – At the Broadbent Wildlife Sanctuary, you can find a true legend of the commonwealth.
You may or may not remember Houdini, he’s a brown and white goat that would peruse the Elizabethtown area of I-65 and probably much more for some years up until 2018. Legend has it he just showed up one day, a goat with no home to call his own. No one knows where he came from but many knew his name.
News 40 took a trip to Irvington to see Houdini for ourselves and he’s doing pretty well. He met a girl and started a family. But how did Houdini get to the sanctuary and how did he get his name? Well, several people tried to corral the goat but to n avail. Somehow the goat would escape every time. Houdini made such an impact to the state that songwriter David Gilbert Foster made a song about him.
One day in 2018, again some travelers attempted to wrangle the goat from nowhere who then ran onto the road and got hit by a car. With a broken leg, Houdini would eventually make his way to the sanctuary where people still call and ask about him to this day a whole 5 years later.
Wildlife rehabilitator Crissy Nichols said people have booked tours just to see Houdini and she said the staff is happy to have anyone who wants to see him.
