Shelters get creative for Valentine’s Day
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Ahead of Valentine’s Day, local shelters have gone above and beyond to get pets adopted in the spirit of love with discounts being offered and various other marketing tactics.
At the Butler County Humane Society, they are at capacity and doing their best to move animals out quickly as they can. Kennel tech and vet assistant Makayla Lowe-Sikes said they try to see what other shelters do in order to help them perform more efficiently. According to her, the idea for Valentine photo shoots came from Williamson county’s shelter in Tennessee.
Lowe-Sikes said they are bracing for cat season as well. With it starting to warm up, the number of strays increases due to animals being out and about as well as not being fixed.
Warren County Humane Society is of the same mind, bringing in a local photographer to make sure the best angles were presented on Facebook. Fortunately for those in the shoot, most of them were adopted. But Katlyn Hare said the same thing about the shelter she works at.
“We don’t have many kittens right now but we’re overflowing with puppies” she said, and added that with the weather starting to warm up they are a little worried about what’s coming.
