Man arrested after student allegedly overdoses at Logan Co. High School

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A man is behind bars after authorities say a student allegedly overdosed at Logan County High School.
On Monday, Dec. 19, South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force agents assisted the Logan County Sheriff’s Department and EMS for a suspected overdose call at Logan County High School.
Authorities say the student had been unconscious and was given several doses of Narcan before agents arrived.
Evidence suggested a student crushed a pill before ingesting it, authorities say.
The student was transported to the Medical Center in Bowling Green for further treatment and later released.
A further investigation allowed authorities to obtain a search warrant for Melvin E. Shelton’s residence.
Shelton, 20, of Russellville was arrested and is in the Logan County Detention Center, where he faces charges of trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (carfentanil or fentanyl derivatives), first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor under 18 years of age – illegal controlled substance and first-degree wanton endangerment.
