New Kentucky Real ID compliant licenses are delayed in Hart County
Munfordville, Ky.- Residents here will have to wait a little while longer to obtain a new Kentucky driver’s license.
The new licenses were expected to be issued on July 10, but due to a delay that won’t happen.
Kentucky drivers can choose between two options. One is a standard driver’s license. The other is a “voluntary travel ID” that complies with new federal travel rules.
Both allow Kentuckians to drive, vote and apply for federal benefits, but if you are planning to fly domestically or enter a military base or federal facility, you must purchase the travel ID that is Real ID compliant.
Hart County Circuit Court Clerk Kayla Roundtree said the delay could be a good thing.
“Maybe Woodford and Franklin are seeing a few things and on the back end they’re wanting to fix it before they bring it to Hart County. That’s OK. I’d rather it come and work rather than having to stop and fix it. I’m perfectly OK with it,” Roundtree said.
While the new issuing date is not known as of now, Rountree said she doesn’t expect it to be delayed for a terribly long time.
