Kentucky recognizes International Overdose Awareness Day
FRANKFORT, Ky. – August 31 around the world is International Overdose Awareness Day. A day meant to remember those who survived and passed due to drug overdose.
in 2022, drugs seem to be ripping through communities at an all time high with potent drugs such as fentanyl plaguing the streets. Here just in Kentucky, we lost 2,250 Kentuckians to the drug epidemic. In the south central part of the state, drugs are on the rise just like anywhere else. Today we had the chance to talk to Terry Flatts, the Glasgow Police Public Information Officer, about what they’ve experienced this year so far.
In an interview with Flatts, he told News 40 that this year, Glasgow PD has responded to 67 overdoses, 4 of which called for Narcan to be used by the responding officers. As of 2020, Glasgow’s population was just a bit above 14,000.
In the capitol, state leaders acknowledged the special day and Governor Andy Beshear signed a proclamation recognizing the day state wide. News 40 also talked to Patti Minter briefly who was in attendance, and she told us that tomorrow, Spetember 1 starts Kentucky’s Recovery Month.
