BGJHS students play wheelchair basketball to learn about disabilities

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-This morning, Bowling Green Junior High School students learned a lot about what living life in a wheelchair is like.

An interactive presentation put on by the organization ‘Skool Aid’ works to dispel myths about people with disabilities. The founders, Mr. Jake and Mr. Ian, invite the kids to play wheelchair basketball with them.

The kids found out it’s a lot harder than how it looks. They were amazed by the strength of Mr. Jake and Mr. Ian. Mr. Jake told the students his story…that he got his disability after trying to jump on a train when he was 13…but he never lets his disability get him down.

“It’s just good to know that there’s people who struggle with this everyday and we’re so fortunate to live our lives like this and we need to help them,” said 7th grade student Natalie Klein, who got to play wheelchair basketball.

The duo travels all over the state of Kentucky to visit schools and teach them about disability awareness.
