Kentucky Job Corps Centers to remain open
MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky.- Kentucky’s three Civilian Conservation Centers (CCC) will remain open, according to a news release from Sen. Mitch McConnell’s office.
The facilities provide educational and job training services for at-risk youth in Edmonson, Menifee and McCreary counties and employ more than 100 workers.
There had been a proposal to close the CCCs located in Frenchburg and Pine Knot. The plan could have also impacted employees and operations at the Great Onyx CCC in Mammoth Cave.
The centers fall under the direction of the United States Department of Agriculture.
According to the news release, McConnell was notified Wednesday by Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue that the centers will remain operational.
