Teranga Academy comes to Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green Independent School District has partnered with Fugees Family Inc., a non-profit geared toward helping refugee children overcome obstacles in the American school system.

Fugees Family was founded by Luma Mufleh in 2007. Mufleh felt there was a sizable learning gap between native Americans and newcomers, and wanted to provide a more equitable environment for learning termed “educational justice”. As the daughter of refugees, she experienced firsthand how being the “odd one out” could affect someone’s school experience.

Fugees Family has until this year only had schools in Columbus, Ohio and Atlanta, Georgia, but now is coming to Bowling Green, Kentucky with plans of expanding to 50 more school districts in the U.S. in coming years.
