Kids on the Block helps unveil newest Save the Depot poster

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – For the past six months now, the Historic Railpark and L&N Depot in Bowling Green has unveiled a new poster each month as part of their “Save the Depot” campaign.
Each month, a different guest celebrity, or celebrities, has helped reveal the newest poster in the line of 12.
On Tuesday, Kids on the Block paid a visit to the Depot to unveil the poster for June.
With more than 100 kids from local summer and day camps in attendance, the newest poster focuses on funding field trips to the building and educating children about the history of the museum and what it means to the city of Bowling Green.
“Children are our future and they really are,” said Jamie Johnson, executive director for the L&N Depot. “If we don’t have this place here to teach these children about the history and importance of railroading, then where would we go from here? We really need to have kids here. We need to get them excited about the place. We need adults to make the efforts to get the kids down here to show them what it’s all about.”
The new poster shows and old-time classroom setting with the teacher in the front of the room.
The poster features the words, “…preserve our history to keep ’em learning! Fund a field trip.”
Kids on the Block Executive Director Ashley Reynolds says getting kids out of the school setting is so important to the learning experience.
“To be able to give them experiences outside of the classroom is so important,” she said. “Of course we go into classrooms primarily, but to give children the opportunities to get outside those walls is just so meaningful. This place, the rail park, just offers so much history and so many eye-opening experiences about the past.”
The next poster reveal will take place on July 2 at 10 a.m.
