Leadership Bowling Green presents GEO International High School students with scholarships
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Leadership Bowling Green celebrated the culmination of their class project yesterday.
Each year, the group completes a project that would benefit the Bowling Green community. This year, the project helped students at GEO International High School. It provided students with mentoring, career shadowing and emphasized further education and career possibilities.
Along with their families, students enjoyed a cookout at Warren Central High School held by the ConneXt Program, organized by the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and Leadership Bowling Green.
GEO International High School is a stand alone school for students who haven’t been in the country more than five years.
It’s the only one of its kind in the entire state and uses English and students’ languages in classes.
Last night, five scholarships were handed out to students at the cookout event.
“Our goal was to get them incorporated with employers in the community and show them that there are plenty of jobs that are good high-paying jobs here in Bowling Green for them,” said Casey Tinius, president of the Leadership Bowling Green class.
They hope that a nonprofit or business will step up to continue this as an annual program.
