453 National Park protest against Trump administration funding cuts
MAMMOTH CAVE, KY.- Over 60 national parks across the United States hold significant cultural and natural value. However, with the Trump Administration’s steep cuts to national parks, thousands of people have turned to protesting at more than 450 locations.
One gathering took place in South Central Kentucky at Mammoth Cave National Park, where concerned citizens spoke out on behalf of the rangers and wildlife affected by these cuts. These citizens made it clear that national parks are not simply tourist attractions; they are vital to the preservation of the nation’s natural heritage.
Shannon Graves, a concerned citizen, emphasized, “The parks are not political. The parks are for everybody. They belong to everybody.” She pointed out that national parks are multigenerational, meant to be enjoyed by future generations. Protestors argue that reducing funding to the national parks will not only diminish visitor experiences but also harm local economies that rely on tourism.
With fewer resources to support these parks, the impact extends beyond just tourism. For more information on how to advocate for national parks, visit the national parks website.
