4-year-old struck by car leaving UK game remembered
(WLEX)- A little more than a week ago, four-year-old Marco Shemwell was hit by a car near Kroger field during a UK football game, and he later died.
Monday friends and family gathered to say goodbye to Marco around noon at Calvary Christian Church in Winchester, with a little help from the football team he loved.
Four-year-old Marco Shemwell loved dance parties in the kitchen, and when he wasn’t dancing to a tune he was often found playing one on his tiny guitar with a smile on his face while belting out a happy song. Which is how the Shemwell family wants the community to remember their little boy at his half UK – half Batman themed funeral today.
Family, friends, and loved ones watched videos of Marco enjoying the small moments of life.
"I think the family would want the community to know that they don’t want their son’s life to be in vain. They want people to take a pause and put some thought into what they’re doing to enjoy their own lives in the short time that we all have," said Mike McCormick the pastor of Calvary Christian Church
In several photos, Marco was seen in his UK gear. His family says he loved Kentucky football he always cheered for the "blue team." and his blue team along with Coach Stoops made sure to be here for Marco and his family, serving as honorary pallbearers.
"The entire University of Kentucky football team was here last night. They gave him the game ball. The actual game ball from Saturday," McCormick also said.
