25 trees planted on Creason Greenway to replace tornado damaged trees
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-Creason Street was left devastated after the December 11th tornadoes…but the Arbor Day Foundation is taking steps to re-beautify the area.
Earlier today, Kentucky Tree Recovery Campaign volunteers planted 25 trees along the Creason Street greenway.
The campaign is a partnership between the Arbor Day Foundation, Aramark and Operation PRIDE.
The trees will replace trees that were damaged or uprooted by the tornadoes. It’s estimated we lost as many as 4,000.
“After the tornadoes, this area had many many trees broken, bent, across the sidewalks, completely gone, uprooted and after it was cleaned up it was empty. this is a greenway to bowling green and it’s very difficult to call it a greenway when you have no green,” said Operation PRIDE executive director Melanie Lawrence.
“It just shows you know that Bowling Green is a special place and we really care about our community and we want to give back to it every opportunity that we have,” said Operation PRIDE founder Johnny Webb.
And this is just the start. Operation PRIDE is hoping to plant about 1,300 to 1,400 trees by the end of this year.
