MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) -A man who confessed to killing a 32-year-old woman during a home invasion in 2022 went before a judge Friday.

Shannon Gilday, 25, of Taylor Mill is charged with the shooting death of Jordan Morgan, daughter of former lawmaker Wesley Morgan.

Police called it a deadly home invasion, where Wesley Morgan was also shot.

WKYT reports both the prosecution and defense are still working to nail down a mental evaluation for Gilday.

Two witnesses, both evaluators, were ready to testify on Friday using Zoom. However, the Commonwealth was still waiting on more information that would be ready by mid-January.

Following a brief recess, everyone returned and agreed to make sure everyone could be available in person and that additional information would be ready by then.

Jordan’s family and friends were in the courtroom to ensure she is not forgotten, and they’re looking forward to their day in court.

“My life stopped on February 22, 2022. To me it seems like yesterday. So, whether I’m getting up and surviving through the day, or surviving through the holidays, or standing in a courtroom. I’m defending my daughter every day. So, really it’s the same for me every day,” said Lisa Foster, Jordan’s mother.

The trial is expected for May 2025.

A judge will hear arguments for the death penalty at the next hearing on Jan. 27.

Gilday remains at the Madison County Detention Center.
