$21.9 million in FEMA reimbursements to benefit Kentucky communities, organizations

FRANKFORT, Ky. – On Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced more than $21.9 million in Federal Emergency Management Agency disaster funds have been secured to reimburse cities, counties and utilities for expenses due to severe weather in 2019, 2021, 2025 and 2026 as well as a Bowling Green hospital for protective measures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“From federally declared weather disasters to the pandemic, Kentucky was owed millions of dollars to help our communities and our people recover and I am proud my administration was able to secure these funds so that we can continue to move forward together,” said Beshear. “This federal support is essential, and I will continue the work to ensure every dollar promised to our commonwealth is delivered.”

According to governor’s office, cities receiving reimbursement include Allen, Frankfort, London, Louisville, Marion and Paintsville.

Counties receiving reimbursement include Carter, Clay, Edmonson, Floyd, Greenup, Harlan, Knox, Leslie, Letcher, Marion, Nelson, Nicholas, Perry, Pike, Rockcastle, Spencer, Whitley and Woodford, officials says.

Utilities receiving reimbursement include Farmers’ Rural Electric Cooperative, Jackson Energy Cooperative, Larue County Water District No. 1, Louisville Metro Sewer District and Tri-County Electric Membership Corporation, according to Beshear’s office.

In addition, officials say state and local agencies receiving reimbursement include the Administrative Office of the Courts, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and London Corbin Airport.

According to the governor’s office, Bowling Green-Warren County Community Hospital Corporation will receive more than $4.7 million for emergency protective measures as a result of DR-4497, declared in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
