2025 Amateur Radio Field Day

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The annual ‘Summer Field Day‘ for radio enthusiasts is back this weekend.

Since 1933, the event has served as an “open house” for anyone interested in amateur radio. It is the most popular radio event of the year.

More than 31,000 radio operators across North America are expected to take part, including the Kentucky Colonels Amateur Radio Club.

The 24-hour competiton gives participants a chance to pratice critical skills. Operators will set up portable radios in emergency-like conditions. They also try to connect with others by using voice, digital, and even morse code.

While the event is designed to improve communication readiness, for many it is all about community and a fun hobby.

Pat Stewart, President of the Kentucky Colonels Amateur Radio Club, believes that ‘ham radio’ operators are a “resource in any kind of emergency.” He urges people that when “communication fails” there are “plently of ham operators” in the area.

The event is open to the public.
