2 dead, 3 injured in Nashville Crash; Bowling Green Man Among Casualties
NASHVILLE, Tn. – Two people were killed Saturday night in Nashville following a car crash, according to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. According to the police report, around 8:40 p.m. Saturday a two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Woodland and S. 1st Streets.
Police say this was caused by a speeding BMW sedan that ran a red light and collided with an Infiniti Crossover SUV. The driver of the BMW was killed, as was a passenger in the Infiniti. The Nashville Police Department says that an officer attempted to stop the BMW for a traffic violation near 1st Avenue South and Gay Street in downtown Nashville. Police say the car stopped momentarily before accelerating away and the officer did not pursue the vehicle.
According to the media release, the Infiniti Crossover was waiting at a stoplight. Police then say the light turned green for the Infiniti and red for the oncoming BMW. The BMW traveling at a high rate of speed according to Nashville police and ran the light before colliding with the Infiniti at the passenger side door. The Infiniti was knocked down the road and overturned. After striking the Infiniti, the BMW collided with a light pole and a fire hydrant.
The report says that after an investigation of the crash site, cognac and marijuana were found near the BMW.
The driver of the BMW was a 31-year-old Bowling Green man whose identity has not been released as the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department says they are still working to notify the family. This man was pronounced dead, according to the police report. Riding in the Infinity Crossover was twenty-one-year-old Kyla Green of Nashville, who police now say was killed in the crash. The driver and two other passengers in the Infiniti were injured and taken to a hospital.
