NEW YORK (WNBC) – Two people have been arrested after climbing the Empire State Building in New York City on Wednesday in an apparent act of love.

According to WNBC, when the pair reached the top of the 1,454-foot building, they unrolled a gigantic banner and fastened it to the antenna.

The banner read, “When the power of love beats the love of power, the world knows peace.”

The duo stood atop the tower for about 30 minutes before they began climbing down onto a platform.

It was on that platform that one of the individuals appeared to propose to the other before they embraced.

About 10 minutes later, they continued their decent where they were met with officials to help them finish their climb and to take them into custody.

It’s not yet clear how the pair gained access to the antenna, but a spokesperson for the Empire State Building called the incident “unauthorized.”

The building appeared to remain open during the ordeal.
