11th annual Dance Big Red at WKU raises money for Norton Children’s Hospital

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Friday, students at WKU are hosting the annual Dance Big Red, where all the proceeds go towards fighting pediatric diseases.

Western Kentucky students gathered for a night of fun that benefits a great cause. The 11th annual event is a six hour dance marathon that features guest speakers, games, and testimonies.

Since it began, Dance Big Red has raised nearly $700,000 for Norton Children’s Hospital. The facility focuses on pediatric cardiovascular services as well as adolescent cancer care.

Because Norton’s relies heavily on the support of the community, college campuses across the commonwealth raise money to show their support.

Eli Thompson, this year’s Morale Co-Chair, reveals that he was once a Norton’s patient. Thompson recalls “being the kid up on stage talking at Dance Big Red in 2017.” He says it is a “full circle moment” to help coordinate the event this year.

Lilly Pottlitzer, Overall Co-Chair of Dance Big Red, shares that her passion behind the cause stems from her little brother. She says she has “danced for [him] for the past four years,” and it is special to share this night with him.

Events have taken place all week long leading up to tonight’s festivities. At midnight, everyone will preform the dance they have been taught at every hour.

The big reveal of much money was raised will also be announced.
