1 found dead in Laurel County after possible drowning

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. – One person is dead after authorities say a possible drowning occurred in Laurel County.

According to Laurel County sheriff John Root, the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to conduct a welfare check regarding a body discovered floating in water off of Kentucky 1956 at about 11:55 a.m. CST on Saturday.

Upon arrival, authorities say they found a body in the river.

Authorities say the body has been identified as 56-year-old Terry Vickers of London, Kentucky. Vickers was pronounced dead at the scene by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office.

According to Root, investigators believe drowning was the cause of death.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Kentucky Fish and Wildlife, Ambulance Inc. of Laurel County, London Laurel Rescue Squad and Swiss Colony Fire and Rescue.

The investigation is ongoing.
