1 found dead after structure fire in Whitley County

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – One person is dead following a structure fire in Whitley County.

The Kentucky State Police says on Sunday around 7:19 a.m., troopers received a report of human remains found in the aftermath of a structure fire.

Authorities say they responded to the scene on Lot-Mud Creek Road in Williamsburg. South Whitley Fire Department was on scene the prior night and located the remains after the fire was extinguished, according to KSP.

Troopers say they were assisted by the Whitley County Coroner’s Office. The Whitley County coroner pronounced the unidentified victim dead and requested an autopsy.

Currently, troopers say no foul play is suspected. The investigation remains ongoing.
