DANVILLE, Ky. – One man is dead following a reported officer-involved shooting in Danville.

The Kentucky State Police says its Critical Incident Response Team was requested to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred around 8:40 p.m. CST Sunday in Boyle County.

Troopers say a preliminary investigation found the Danville Police Department received a call about an armed, suicidal subject at an apartment complex on Center Estates Drive in Danville.

Upon arrival, authorities say 39-year-old Cody Downey of Danville charged at officers with a knife.

Authorities say one officer fired his agency-issued weapon, striking Downey.

According to KSP, officers performed life-saving measures until EMS arrived and transported Downey to Ephraim McDowell Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by the Boyle County Coroner’s Office.

No officers were injured during this incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
