1 dead after moped collides into the rear of a vehicle

LONDON, Ky. – Kentucky State Police is investigating a fatal crash in Laurel County.
KSP Post 11 says it was called to a two-vehicle injury accident near 900 North Laurel Road on Wednesday.
KSP’s initial investigation shows a moped operated by Ronald Bedley, 74, of London, was lying injured in a roadway upon arrival at the scene. The second vehicle involved in the crash was operated by Darlene Maggard, 67, of McKee,
KSP says both vehicles were traveling north. Maggard’s vehicle was stopped in the road waiting to turn left. Begley failed to stop his moped and collided with the rear of Maggard’s vehicle.
Begley was not wearing a helmet. He was transported to St. Joseph Hospital in London.
Begley was pronounced dead at the hospital.
KSP says no other injuries have been reported, and alcohol and drugs are not suspected to be factors in the collision.
The investigation is ongoing.
